Bernard Bailey

Bernard Bailey brings to Viisage more than 20 years of management experience in the high technology industry, including executive positions with International Business Machines (IBM) and Art Technology Group (ATG).

Today Bernard is one of the foremost authorities on identity-related technology solutions and issues related to identity crimes and border security. During his time at Viisage, he has expanded the company’s scope beyond the core capabilities in face recognition and secure credentials by adding document authentication and smart cards to the company’s solutions scope. This breadth of capabilities has enabled the company to provide solutions for the largest smart card deployment currently in use by the U.S. Federal Government as well as solutions for more than 20 countries around the world.

Immediately prior to joining Viisage, Bernard served as the Chief Operating Officer for ATG, a leading provider of online Customer Relationship Management software. In this position, he played a key role in stabilizing the financial performance of the company through a very difficult economic environment, while providing the leadership that allowed the company to continue to add critical blue chip customers such as France Telecom, the U.S. Army and Merrill Lynch.

Bernard began his career in high technology in 1984 with IBM, where he served in a variety of finance, sales, marketing and operations positions. From 1997 until 2001, he played key executive roles in the growth and development of IBM Global Services’ systems integration and consulting business lines.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Bernard served for eight years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, including a three-year assignment as an assistant professor in ocean engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy. Upon leaving the Navy, Bernard joined Gilbane Building Company where he managed the construction of the Viet Nam Veterans' Memorial in Washington, DC. Bernard also holds an MBA from George Washington University, as well as an MS in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.
