Mr. Beckman joined Ares in 1998 and serves as a Managing Director and West Coast head of Ares Capital Management (“Ares Capital”), the private debt and minority equity arm of Ares Management LLC. Before joining Ares Capital, Mr. Beckman served as a founding partner of Ares’ private equity group and a member of its investment committee, and as a member of the team responsible for Ares’ mezzanine debt investments. While at Ares, he has had responsibility for originating, structuring and managing investments in mezzanine debt, private equity and distressed debt in middle market companies across a number of industries. Prior to joining Ares, Mr. Beckman was a leverage finance banker at Goldman Sachs & Co. where he was involved in executing leveraged loan and high yield bond offerings, in raising and managing a dedicated fund providing subordinated bridge loans, and in certain restructuring advisory and distressed lending activities. Mr. Beckman is the Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Advisory Board of the Posse Foundation and a member of the Steering Committee for the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Sports Spectacular. Mr. Beckman graduated summa cum laude from Cornell University with a BA in Political Theory and Economics, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his JD from the Yale Law School where he was a senior editor of the Yale Law Journal. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
