The Southern California Biomedical Council (SCBC) promotes and supports biomedical and biotechnology research, development, and manufacturing in the Greater Los Angeles region for economic development and job creation.

The SCBC was created with support from Rebuild LA (RLA) under its second president, Linda Griego. The SCBC was incorporated in December of 1995 as a non-profit (c) 6, membership-based, California trade association.

The SCBC focuses on Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

The SCBC membership is composed of biomed/biotech firms, service providers, public sector agencies, research hospitals, and colleges and universities.

The SCBC -- through specialized committees -- carries out a number of programs seeking, among other things, to:

  • Assist local firms in accessing sources of capital, potential partners, and useful support services and products;
  • Create partnerships to accommodate the real estate needs of the Greater LA biomed/biotech industry;
  • Promote linkages with local universities, research institutions, and other educational institutions for workforce training and technology transfer purposes;
  • Advocate on behalf of the region’s firms concerning local, state and national legislative issues affecting the industry’s growth and dynamism; and
  • Provide forums for networking and education to help local firms navigate the complex business environment in the Greater LA region.

Membership is open to:

n
  • Biomed/biotech firms in the greater Los Angeles region (from Santa Barbara in the North to Orange County in the south and from Santa Monica in the west to the Inland Empire in the east).
  • Providers of allied products and services (such as venture capital funds, industrial banks and law firms) with interest in biomed/biotech technology development and commercialization in the greater Los Angeles region.
  • Not for profit organizations (such as universities and colleges, research institutions, research hospitals, and local development agencies) having interest in biomedical technology development in greater LA.
